It’s widely known that people learn from their experiences. So why should it be any different when we go to school? Why have we relied on hours and hours of classroom lectures when we know (from experience) that we assimilate some information better through hands on activities? I am developing a series of lesson plans and art projects to give children the opportunity to have first hand experiences in the natural world… experiences like hiking in the park and capturing their impressions in a nature journal…simple lessons on recycling in their homes and school…fun projects like how to make a bird feeder or plant a fairy garden. Because every child deserves to play on the beach, and splash in a stream or stand on a mountaintop and feel the powerful connection to nature in their own personal way.
